Wonder Woman has officially become the highest-grossing superhero origin movie at the domestic box office.

After nearly three months in theaters Wonder Woman’s box office run is about to come to an end, but not before hitting one last major milestone. According to BoxOfficeMojo, Wonder Woman has finished today with an estimated $404,008,376 gross, edging the film slightly past the original Spider-Man‘s $403,706,375 total (without adjusting for inflation, of course). It also places it in front of Batman ($251 million), Big Hero 6 ($222 million), Iron Man ($318 million), Guardians of the Galaxy ($333 million), and even Deadpool ($363 million).

The Patty Jenkins-directed flick has blown past nearly every critical and commercial expectation. Its accomplishments are especially stunning considering it came off the heels of three divisive movies, two of which (Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad) were intended to establish the blossoming DC Extended Universe into a full-fledged cinematic landscape. Additionally, Wonder Woman was the first major female-led superhero origin movie of its kind, and quickly became the first movie in the DCEU to be certified fresh on Rotten Tomatoes and was marked as the most commercially successful DCEU film to date, surpassing each DCEU film at the domestic box office, and all but one (Batman V Superman) at the worldwide box office. Wonder Woman‘s incredible box office success, both domestically and globally, has garnered Jenkins the record for the highest-grossing film directed by a woman, surpassing both Phyllida Lloyd’s Mamma Mia! ($609.8 million) and Jennifer Yuh Nelson’s Kung Fu Panda 2 ($665.7 million). The thing is, the film wasn’t done breaking records yet.

All of this has reportedly encouraged Warner Bros. to stage a huge Oscar push for the WWI actioner, which would be the studio’s first comic book movie to receive such a backing since the release of The Dark Knight Rises. Alas, Christopher Nolan’s trilogy-capper didn’t wind up with a single nomination, and it’s often the case that The Academy limits Hollywood’s costumed crusaders to the primary technical achievements (see: Best Visual Effects, Best Sound Mixing), with the only real exception being the two Oscar wins for The Dark Knight back in 2009.
